After a strong showing last time out, Jerseyman Jack Butel endured a difficult weekend at Brands Hatch for Rounds 3 and 4 of the UK LMP3 Cup last weekend (19/20 May).
After finishing seventh and fifth in the opening two rounds, Jack, teammate Dominic Paul and their team Speedworks Motorsport were eager to work their way up the results sheets at Brands Hatch.
On the opening day Butel and Paul put the rapid Ligier LMP3 machine onto the front row of the grid in qualifying before a strong fourth place in the opening contest of the weekend.
On the Sunday morning, Dominic was on all out attack for pole position but made a rare mistake, and the Englishman put the sports car into the barriers. Walking away unscathed, Paul was fighting fit but unfortunately with too much damage to the car – Jack and the team couldn’t take part in the second race of the weekend.
“Naturally I was disappointed not to start the second race, but most importantly Dominic was okay. We will fight another day and come back stronger next time. He is really progressing and we have taken a step forward in pace so we are looking forward to Belgium – a place where I have fond memories last year.”
The Speedworks team now have a race against time as they rebuild the Ligier for the exciting overseas round on 5-6 June at the famous Spa Francorchamps in Belgium – the scene for Jack’s first sports car.
